A Taste of Brussels: Celebrating International Chocolate Day

On 13 September, International Chocolate Day celebrates one of Belgium’s most iconic traditions.

In Brussels, chocolate is more than a sweet treat. It is part of the city’s character, crafted with tradition, enjoyed with pleasure and woven into everyday life.

There are many ways to experience Brussels. Wander through the cobbled streets of the historic centre, admire the intricate details of its Art Nouveau architecture or pause in one of the city’s elegant cafés and watch Brussels unfold around you.

And then, there is chocolate.

For generations, chocolate has been an essential part of Belgium’s culinary identity. From beautifully crafted pralines to rich truffles and delicate pastries, Belgian chocolate has earned a reputation far beyond the country’s borders. In Brussels, discovering it is almost a journey in itself, one that invites you to slow down, explore and, most importantly, savour.

For International Chocolate Day, we are celebrating that tradition through two comforting classics at Rotisse: our chocolate mousse and Dame Blanche.

Both are familiar desserts, but their apparent simplicity is exactly what makes every detail matter.

Chocolate mousse and Dame Blanche are two classics I never get tired of. With the mousse, it’s about finding that balance between an intense chocolate flavour and a texture that stays light and airy. With the Dame Blanche, I love the contrast of cold vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate sauce and softly whipped cream. They are simple, generous desserts, but when every element is just right, that simplicity is what makes them special.Rotisse's Chef
